Some paragraphs contain more than one main idea or develop unevenly
Linking words are present, though they may be overused or awkward

Ideas move in a clear, logical order with well-controlled paragraphing
Each paragraph develops one purpose and supports the overall argument
Cohesive devices, reference words, and repetition control feel natural

Common mistakes

Starting too many sentences with the same linker such as However or Moreover
Combining unrelated ideas in one paragraph
Writing a conclusion that introduces a new argument

Improvement checklist

Give every body paragraph a single main idea before you start writing
Use topic sentences to signal the purpose of each paragraph
Replace half of your linking words with clearer sentence structure or reference words
